    Corrosion-Resistant 4140 Alloy Steel Rods

Image of Product. Front orientation. Steel. Corrosion-Resistant 4140 Alloy Steel Rods.
A chrome plating on these rods increases their corrosion resistance. They're also hardened, which makes them more resistant to impacts and abrasion. Also known as chrome-moly steel, this versatile alloy steel is used for a wide range of parts, such as gears, axles, shafts, collets, and die holders. It resists fracturing from repeated stress.
Note: Rods may be made from either 4140 or 4142 alloy steel. They are interchangeable in most applications.

    Tight-Tolerance Extreme-Strength 17-4 PH Stainless Steel Rods

Image of Product. Front orientation. Stainless Steel. Tight-Tolerance Extreme-Strength 17-4 PH Stainless Steel Rods.
Machine high-strength parts that require pinpoint precision. Ready to turn in your lathe, these rods come precision ground to tight diameter tolerances.
17-4 PH stainless steel combines the strength of 400 series stainless steel with the corrosion resistance of 300 series. This makes it fit for the most demanding applications—even storing and protecting nuclear waste. You can be confident it will stay corrosion resistant in temperatures as hot as 1100° F. Also known as 630 stainless steel.

    Keyed Rotary Shafts

Match with a machine key to prevent slipping while transmitting torque to gears and other components. Turned, ground, and polished to tight tolerances, these shafts reduce vibration, evenly distribute loads, and improve accuracy.

Mount components anywhere along the length of these shafts. For secure torque transmission, slide a component from either end and lock it into place with an ANSI machine key (sold separately).
Carbon Steel—Strong and easy to machine. These shafts work best in dry environments since moisture will cause steel to rust.

    Tight-Tolerance Ultra-Machinable 12L14 Carbon Steel Rods

Image of Product. Front orientation. Steel. Tight-Tolerance Ultra-Machinable 12L14 Carbon Steel Rods.
Ready for turning in a lathe, these rods are precision ground and held to a strict straightness tolerance. The lead additive acts as a lubricant, which allows 12L14 carbon steel to withstand very fast machining. It's used to fabricate a wide variety of machine parts, such as shaft couplings, studs, and pins. For added wear resistance, they can be surface hardened with heat treating.
