They also withstand mild chemicals and water, although they’ll break down from exposure to brake fluid. Their resistance to compression and tearing helps them keep their shape over time, so they’re often used to seal power transmission assemblies and pneumatic cylinders.

Made of SBR rubber, these washers won’t break down from exposure to water. Place one washer inside a nozzle or spigot to prevent leaks at the connection point. The _5/8" ID washer is commonly used in garden hoses.

They won’t swell from contact with grease and acid, making them a good choice in engine, hydraulic, and HVAC systems. Because they won’t deteriorate from ozone, UV, or oxidation, these O-rings are also good for outdoor use. However, they won’t withstand solvents or strong acids like Viton® fluoroelastomer O-rings do. They’re also known as hydrogenated nitrile and highly saturated nitrile O-rings.

Safe to use in drinking water, these washers meet strict NSF/ANSI 61 standards. All are made of EPDM rubber, so they won’t break down from exposure to water.
