    Swirl-Free Air-Powered Disc Sanders

For a more consistent finish than rotary or orbital disc sanders, these move sanding discs in small irregular circles to prevent swirl marks. Also known as random orbital sanders. They work with either adhesive-back discs or hook and loop discs.

Medium Duty—Medium duty sanders work well for general purpose sanding. To adjust how much material they remove, turn the dial with your thumb as you sand to change the speed.
Heavy Duty—Heavy duty sanders can be used continuously to sand most surfaces. They run at a steady speed and balance power and weight, so you can achieve your finish faster than light and medium duty sanders. They'll maintain speed when sanding tough surfaces.
3/32" Diameter Orbit—Sanders with a 3/32" orbit diameter remove material the slowest but leave the finest finish on your work surface.
3/16" Diameter Orbit—Sanders with a 3/16" orbit diameter balance removal speed with finish quality and leave you with a moderately smooth finish on your work surface.
3/8" Diameter Orbit—Sanders with a 3/8" orbit diameter are good for aggressive sanding, such as shaping material. They remove material the quickest and leave the coarsest finish on your work surface.

    Heavy Duty Air-Powered Disc Sanders

Image of Product. Front orientation. Sanders. Heavy Duty Air-Powered Disc Sanders.
For tough jobs, these sanders use roughly 1.5 times more air than standard air-powered disc sanders. Made with a steel housing, they’ll hold up to bumps and scuffs in environments as rugged as foundries. They’re often used to remove flash, which is the metal that seeps out of die cast molds. Their high air consumption makes the steel cold, but a rubber housing protects your hands and also reduces vibration. These sanders move in a fixed rotary motion, so they remove more material from your work surface than random orbital sanders. However, this means they can leave swirl marks on the surface. Use with Style B quick-change discs (not included).

    Cordless Swirl-Free Disc Sanders

Create a consistent finish on quick sanding jobs where you don’t have access to air or electric power. Also known as random orbital sanders, they move in small irregular circles to leave a more consistent finish than rotary disc sanders. The variable-speed motor lets you set the speed for any task, from heavy material removal to delicate surface sanding. To conform to curves and crevices for a consistent finish, they include a cushioning pad. Use these sanders with hook and loop sanding discs. The battery and charger are also sold separately.

    Sander with Batteries and Charger

For quick jobs where you don’t have access to a power source, these sanders are battery-powered. They’re more aggressive than orbital disc sanders—they use rotary motion to remove material faster. The rotary motion may leave swirl marks on your work surface. All require quick-change sanding discs or hook and loop sanding discs. You can also use them wit h quick-change polishing pads to polish your surface.
These sanders have a brushless motor that reduces friction to optimize battery life. They’re durable; they run cool and have few moving parts that require maintenance. An LED light illuminates your work surface and reduces shadows for easy viewing. Adjust the side handle to keep your grip steady in multiple positions.
Use them with an Ingersoll Rand 20V DC battery and charger you already have or choose the sander that has batteries and a charger included.
Batteries—For many batteries, recycling or other proper disposal is required by law. Do not dispose of batteries in the trash. For recycling drop-off locations visit www.batterynetwork.org/locator or call 1-877-2-RECYCLE.

    Sponge

Keep the surface of your workpiece damp during sanding. These blocks have a sponge in the center that soaks up water or lubricant, then slowly releases it as you sand. This makes the surface of your sanding disc (sold separately) slippery, which helps prevent scratches. It also washes away dust and debris, removing clogs and extending the life of the abrasive. Made of firm foam, these blocks distribute pressure evenly across the surface of the sanding disc. They’re often used for surface preparation or finishing delicate materials.
