Oil Filled—No need to stop and clean these stones as you polish—they’re filled with oil to keep debris from getting stuck in their pores. You’ll also need an oil-based lubricant to wash away debris and reduce friction and heat on your workpiece.

The dimple-free surface sharpens blades evenly every time. Since these stones have the most abrasive, they also remove material more quickly. However, debris can build up rapidly, so you’ll need to wipe them clean more often.

    Detail Polishing Stones

Smooth ribs, slots, teeth, and other fine features—these stones are thin enough to slip into hard-to-reach areas. Made of bonded ceramic, they’re harder and more wear resistant than aluminum oxide stones, but flexible enough not to crack under pressure. Pair with a holder (sold separately) to polish by hand or with a power tool, such as an ultrasonic polisher. Apply a water-soluble or oil-based lubricant to help keep debris from building up on the surface.

    Polishing Stones for Steel

Just the right hardness level for polishing steel tools, molds, and dies. These stones also double as a good choice for general polishing. Choose the stone shape that best matches the contour of your work surface. These stones can be used by hand or in a power tool with a holder (both sold separately). To keep debris from building up, apply a water-soluble or oil-based lubricant during use.

Silicon Carbide Abrasive—Silicon carbide stones, also known as Crystolon stones, are extremely sharp. These stones remove material more quickly than aluminum oxide stones. They are best for the early polishing stage when you want to clear away more material from your work surface. However, they give you less control over material removal than aluminum oxide stones, so stopping at an exact point is more difficult to do.

    Polishing Stones for Hard Metals

Remove imperfections on tools, molds, and dies made from high-grade steel, such as P20 and H13 tool steel, 420 stainless steel, and more. These stones are harder than standard aluminum oxide stones. Thanks to their aluminum oxide abrasive, they slowly remove material to give you more control over how much you take off. Polish with them by hand or secure them in a power tool with the compatible holder. To stop debris from building up, apply a water-soluble or oil-based lubricant during use.

    Polishing Stones for Soft Metals

Prevent scratches, tears, and gouges in aluminum, brass, and other soft metal molds and dies as you polish. These stones are softer than standard aluminum oxide stones. Thanks to their aluminum oxide abrasive, they slowly remove material to give you more control over how much you take off. Polish by hand or mount them in power tools with a compatible holder. To keep debris from clogging the surface, apply a water-soluble or oil-based lubricant during use.

    Uniform-Finish Polishing Stones

Image of ProductInUse. Front orientation. Polishing Stones. Uniform-Finish Polishing Stones.
Prevent uneven polishing marks. Unlike other polishing stones, these stones never leave your work surface for a uniform finish. You move them around with a lapping rod (sold separately), which you can lift off to pause your work—instead of removing the stone. Choose the stone shape that best matches the contour of your work surface.
Lubricate your work surface with either a water-soluble or oil-based lubricant. To make sure the lapping rod doesn’t slip off of the polishing stone as you work, create a small indentation in the stone with a diamond grinding bit. For best results, install the lapping rod in a reciprocating polisher.

Access tight spots. These sticks are spring-loaded to hold a small sanding belt taut, but you can easily rotate the belt when it becomes worn. They’re color coded by grit to keep you organized. All sticks accept belts of the same width regardless of grit.

    Diamond Sharpening Stones

Sharpen blades of any material with the hardest and longest-lasting abrasive we offer. The diamond surface keeps its shape and finish without lubricants, so you can use these stones dry or with water. Rinse with water to clean.

The dimple-free surface sharpens blades evenly every time. Since these stones have the most abrasive, they also remove material more quickly. However, debris can build up rapidly, so you’ll need to wipe them clean more often.
Antislip Mat—Keep the stone in place to maintain a steady angle while you sharpen.

    Miniature Detail Polishing Stones

About the size of pencil lead, these stones polish your smallest ribs, slots, and crevices in molds and dies. Don’t underestimate their thin profile—they’re made of bonded ceramic, which makes them tough yet flexible. This means they won’t snap like pencil lead does when you apply pressure during polishing. These stones also resist wear, so they last a long time. Pair them with a holder to polish by hand or with an ultrasonic polisher (both sold separately). Apply a water-soluble or oil-based lubricant to help keep debris from building up on the surface.

Polishing Stones for EDM Scale Removal

Remove the tough scale left by the EDM (electrical discharge machining) process. These stones are harder than standard aluminum oxide polishing stones but are not so hard that they will scratch or gouge your workpiece. They abrade slowly, so you can control how much material you remove.
Polish by hand or use these stones in power tools with a compatible holder. You’ll also need lubricant.

    Water-Activated Sharpening Stones

Sharpen cutting edges faster and with less pressure than standard stones. Instead of applying a lubricant, add a few splashes of water to form an abrasive slurry. The slurry removes imperfections efficiently, exposing fresh grit as it forms.
For duller blades, sharpen with multiple stones, moving from coarser to finer grits. Use 220 grit to smooth away damage, 500 grit for the initial pass, 1200 grit for polishing, and 1400 grit for an ultra-fine, mirror-like finish.
Add a mat to catch the slurry and keep your work area clean.
