Exceptional hardness makes AR500 carbon steel more resistant to wear and impact than other carbon steel. And with a yield strength of 200,000 psi, it’s also stronger. That's why it's often used to protect blades and buckets on heavy equipment, or to line truck beds and chutes. While it’s too hard to bend or form, you can cut it with plasma, oxyacetylene, lasers, water jets, or abrasive cutoff saws.

Cut into custom shapes to create shims that suit your needs. With thickness tolerances as fine as a strand of hair, the shims will precisely align, space, and level components on dies, presses, and machinery.
You can stack multiple shims to achieve your exact thickness, but stacking more than four may cause them to shift. Remember, fewer shims are better, so a couple of thicker shims are more stable than a bunch of thin shims.
Stress-Resistant Spring Steel—Harder and holds its shape better than carbon steel. Use it for high-stress applications, such as leveling heavy machinery. It's best for dry areas since moisture will cause it to rust.
Temper Rating—Choose half hard to create shims that you’ll need to bend or shape. Opt for full hard to make stronger shims that will maintain their shape
under loads.

Also known as chrome-moly steel, this versatile alloy steel is used for a wide range of parts, such as gears, axles, shafts, collets, and die holders. It resists fracturing from repeated stress. For added wear resistance, the surface can be hardened with heat treating.
Note: Rods may be made from either 4140 or 4142 alloy steel. They are interchangeable in most applications.

Exceptional hardness makes AR500 carbon steel more resistant to wear and impact than other carbon steel. And with a yield strength of 200,000 psi, it’s also stronger. That's why it's often used to protect blades and buckets on heavy equipment, or to line truck beds and chutes. While it’s too hard to bend or form, you can cut it with plasma, oxyacetylene, lasers, water jets, or abrasive cutoff saws.

When you don’t know the exact shim thickness you’ll need, keep shim stock in multiple thicknesses on hand so you always have the right one. Cut this shim stock into custom shapes to create shims that suit your needs. With thickness tolerances as fine as a strand of hair, the shims will precisely align, space, and level components on dies, presses, and machinery.
You can stack multiple shims to achieve your exact thickness, but stacking more than four may cause them to shift. Remember, fewer shims are better, so a couple of thicker shims are more stable than a bunch of thin shims.
Stress-Resistant Spring Steel—Harder and holds its shape better than carbon steel. Use it for high-stress applications, such as leveling heavy machinery. It's best for dry areas since moisture will cause it to rust.
