Lay your wire into the open barrel instead of threading and poking into a closed barrel. When squeezing the sides closed, use a crimping tool to prevent a damaged barrel and loose connection.

Ring terminals encircle the whole screw shank, so they stay put better than spade and hook terminals when vibrated or pulled. They take a bit longer to install, however, because you have to completely remove the screw.

These terminals come attached to a reel that feeds into an automated crimper (not included) for large-volume electrical installations. They also have an open barrel, so you can lay your wire into place instead of threading and poking into a closed barrel.

Lay the main wire into your tap on the first try instead of poking and threading. The tap wire connects parallel to the tap or at 90°, so the tap will slide into your setup at different angles. Strip both wires and slide off the screw plate before installation. Tighten the set screws onto both wires for a secure connection.
