Twist-Resistant Press-In Threaded Inserts for Plastic

Image of Product. Bottom orientation. Threaded Inserts. Twist-Resistant Press-In Threaded Inserts for Plastic.
The hex-shaped body resists loosening and twisting in round holes for a more secure hold than other press-in inserts for plastic. Unlike screw-to-expand inserts, these inserts stay put even before you screw in a fastener. However, they may lose strength if screws are repeatedly removed and reinserted. Install inserts with an arbor press or similar pressure tool.
18-8 Stainless Steel—The choice for wet and outdoor environments, these inserts resist rust and mild chemicals. Since they’re lead-free, they can be safely recycled.
Lightweight Aluminum—At one-third the weight of steel or brass, use these inserts in robotics, aerospace parts, and other applications with strict weight limits. They also resist rust about as well as stainless steel but aren't as strong. Since inserts are lead-free, they can be safely recycled.

    Press-In Threaded Inserts for Plastic

Image of Product. Bottom orientation. Threaded Inserts. Press-In Threaded Inserts for Plastic.
The barbed sides keep these inserts in place before a screw is installed. They're faster and easier to install in plastic than heat-set or mold-in inserts. However, they lack the same holding power, so they're best for parts that are rarely disassembled. Install inserts with an arbor press or similar pressure tool.
Flanged Profile—Flanges on the insert create a load-bearing surface that prevents cracks or deformation in the base material. They also curb overtightening and keep inserts from getting pulled out or through.
Brass—Conductive and nonmagnetic, these inserts are useful for electrical applications. They resist moisture but aren't as strong as steel inserts.

    Hammer-In Threaded Inserts for Softwood

Image of Product. Bottom orientation. Threaded Inserts. Hammer-In Threaded Inserts for Softwood.
Barbs on these inserts dig into softwood for a secure hold. The flange keeps them from being pulled through the material and adds a load-bearing surface. They’re good for light duty assemblies that don't need the precise fit of tapping inserts, such as furniture and shop fixtures. Hammer inserts into a drilled hole to install. The installed length includes the flange.
Zinc Alloy—Soft enough to cut into wood without splitting it, these inserts also resist occasional moisture.

Split-Preventing Tee-Nut Threaded Inserts for Hardwood

Image of Product. Barbed Secured. Bottom orientation. Threaded Inserts. Split-Preventing Tee-Nut Threaded Inserts for Hardwood, Barbed Secured.

    Barbed Secured

Prongs or barbs create a secure fit that won't split hardwood. To install these inserts, hammer them into a drilled hole. The installed length includes the flange.
Barbed Secured—The ridged barrel makes these inserts even less likely to split hardwood than pronged inserts. They're often used in wood that has been cut across the growth rings.
Steel—Best for dry environments since moisture will cause these inserts to rust.
Black-Oxide Steel—These inserts are often chosen for the dark, matte appearance. They're best for dry environments since they can rust when exposed to moisture.
Zinc-Plated Steel—A step up from plain steel, the plating withstands occasional exposure to moisture.
