General Purpose Washers
18-8 stainless steel and 17-7 PH stainless steel washers have good chemical resistance and may be mildly magnetic. 17-7 PH stainless steel washers are stronger than 18-8 stainless steel washers. A286 stainless steel washers withstand high temperatures. They have good chemical resistance and may be mildly magnetic.
Zinc yellow-chromate and chrome-plated steel washers are corrosion resistant in wet environments.
Zinc-aluminum coated and black ultra-corrosion-resistant coated steel washers resist chemicals and withstand 1,000 hours of salt spray.

Mil. Spec. Washers
Choose these washers for their adherence to strict military standards for material and construction.
18-8 stainless steel and 321 stainless steel washers have excellent corrosion resistance in most environments. They may be mildly magnetic. Passivated 18-8 stainless steel washers have added protection against oxidation and corrosion. Black-oxide 18-8 stainless steel washers have a matte-black finish.
Cadmium- and zinc yellow-chromate plated steel washers are corrosion resistant in wet environments.
Copper and brass washers are corrosion resistant in wet environments, nonmagnetic, and electrically conductive. Black-oxide brass washers have a matte-black finish. Nickel copper washers (also known as Monel) are more corrosion resistant than stainless steel. They have excellent resistance to salt water and some acids.

USS washers generally have a larger ID and OD than SAE washers.
316 stainless steel washers have excellent resistance to chemicals and salt water. They may be mildly magnetic.
18-8 stainless steel washers have good chemical resistance and may be mildly magnetic. Black-oxide washers have a matte-black finish.
Zinc-plated steel washers are corrosion resistant in wet environments.

Abrasion-Resistant Rubber and Plastic Sealing Washers
Made of durable material, these washers resist wear from rubbing and scraping surfaces. They create a light duty seal around fasteners to prevent fluids from leaking and damp vibration.
Aramid fabric/Buna-N rubber washers have good oil resistance.
Buna-N rubber washers are FDA compliant for direct contact with food. They have good oil resistance, and are commonly used in applications with plant and animal fat and oil. However, Buna-N washers have a significantly lower maximum temperature rating than Aramid/Buna-N washers and ePTFE washers.
ePTFE plastic washers have excellent weather resistance.
